PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new substance, having active oxygen scavenging actions and useful for diseases in which free radicals are regarded as participating to, e.g. various inflammations, disorder after ischemia-reperfusion, aging of skin, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This substance FO-2047 is a compound of the formula. The substance FO-2047 has the following physicochemical properties: property: white powder; molecular weight: 215.0938 (measured by a high-resolution electron ionization mass spectrometry); molecular formula: C13H13NO2; melting point: 147-152°C; specific rotatory power: [α]25D=-10.2 (c=0.6, ethanol); solubility: soluble in MeOH, EtOH and CHCl3 and sparingly soluble in water; color reaction: positive to ninhydrin, sulfuric acid and iodine; weakly basic, etc. The compound of the formula is obtained by aerobically culturing a microorganism belonging to the genus Penicillium which is preferably Penicillium sp. FO-2047 (FERM P-14530) and collecting the substance from the resultant culture medium.
