EXAMPLE: Ethyl 4-ethoxy-2-oxo-2H-pyran-5-carboxylate.
USE: A raw material for producing novel naphthoquinone represented by formula II being an intermediate for producing substituted anthracene-5,12-dione used in substituted tetrathiotetracene and tetraselenotetracene producing a conductive charge moving complex using an electron acceptor.
PROCESS: A novel compd. represented by formula III (wherein R4 is 1-4C alkyl) is cyclized in the presence of anhydrous strong acid such as formic anhydride or polyphosphoric acid at 50-250°C without using a solvent to obtain the compd. represented by formula I.
