To obtain the subject new compound capable of functioning not only as a single oxygen quencher but also as an optical information medium itself.
This compound is represented by formula I [R is a (substituted) piperazinyl; M is a transition metal; A+ is a quaternary ammonium or a quaternary phosphonium] such as a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a 3,4-dihalogenobenzenesulfonyl chloride with piperazine or a substituted piperazinyl compound to synthesize a compound of formula III (X1 and X2 are each chlorine or the like) [e.g. 4-(N- methylpiperazinylsulfonyl)-1,2-dichlorobenzene], reacting the compound of formula III with sodium hydrosulfide in the presence of iron powder and sulfur powder as catalysts and converted the obtained product into a compound of formula IV and further reacting this compound with a transition metal salt [e.g. nickel chloride (II) hexahydrate] and a quaternary ammonium or a quaternary phosphonium salt (e.g. tetrabutylammonium bromide).
