NEW MATERIAL: A compd. of formula I [wherein R1 is (substd.) heteroaryl or (substd.) aryl; R2 is (substd. heteroaryl, (substd.) aryl, (substd.) alkyl or the like; R3 to R6 are each H, (substd.) heteroaryl or the like; X is CH2-CH2 or CH=CH; A is a group of formula II or III (wherein R10 is H or alkyl; and R11 is R10, aryl or the like); Y is a bond or NR12 (wherein R12 is R10); Z is CH=CH, CH2, O, S or NR12; and n and m are each 0 to 4].
EXAMPLE: Methyl erythro-(E)-3,5-dihydroxy-7-[8,8-dimethyl-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-3- phenyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroindolizine-1-yl]hepta-6-enoate.
USE: An HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor.
PROCESS: An aldehyde of formula IV is reacted with an acetoacetic ester of formula V (wherein R13 is alkyl) and the obtained ketone (new substance) of formula VI is reduced to obtain a corresponding compd. of formula I.
