PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new compound useful as an ashless type cleaning agent excellent in high-temperature stability (high-temperature cleaning properties).
CONSTITUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I to III {(x) and (y) are each 1-3; R1 and R2 are each a 9-20C alkyl; (m) is 1-2; (n) is 0-2; [(m)+(n)] is 2-4; (o) and (p) are each 1-3; (q), (r) and (s) are each 0-2; [(q)+(r)] is 1-2; (t) and (u) are each 0-3; [(t)+(u)] is 1-3; (w) is 1-3}, e.g. bis(hexadecylphenyl) (hexadecylhydroxybenzenedicarboxylate). The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by reacting an alkyl group-substituted salicylic acid expressed by formula IV with an alkyl group-substituted phenol expressed by formula V as necessary, in the presence of a catalyst.
