Abstract:

To provide a new photo-coloring (photochromic) naphthopyran compound and a composition and an article containing the naphthopyran compound.

A compound having a specific substituent for the carbon atom at the fifth position of the naphtho-part of naphthopyran and at the second position in the pyran ring of naphthopyran, such as 2-(4-morpholinophenyl)-2-phenyl-5-methoxycarbonyl-6-hydroxy-2H-naphtho[1, 2-b]pyran and 2-(9-ethylcarbazole-2-yl)-2-phenyl-5-methoxycarbonyl-6-acetoxy-2H-naphtho[1, 2-b]pyran is provided. An organic host material containing the compound or an organic host material coated with the compound, and in addition an article containing the new naphthopyran compound or a mixture of the new naphthopyran compound and a complementary photo-coloring compound (for example, spiro (indoline) type compound) such as an ophthalmic lens and other transparent plastic articles are also provided.
