Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: Compds. of formula I (wherein Q represents S, SO or SO2; R1 represents H, halogen, CN or CF3; R2, R4 and R5 each represent H or halogen, R3 represents halogen, CF3, OCF3 or SO2CF3; R6 represents H, CN, carboxyl, alkyl or alkoxycarbonyl; and R7 represents halogen, OH, NH2, alkylamino, arylamino, aralkylamino, hydrazino, alkylthio, arylthio or the like).
EXAMPLE: α-[2-Trifluoromethylthio-5-(2,6-dichloro-4-trifluoromethylphenoxy)- benzyl]malonic acid.
USE: A herbicide.
PROCESS: For example, a substd. phenoxybenzyl halide of formula II (wherein X represents halogen) is reacted with a carbonyl compd. of formula III in the presence of a suitable acid acceptor and a suitable diluent to obtain a compd. of formula I.
