PURPOSE: To obtain the material which allows high-density recording and high- speed information transmission by dispersing a metal nitride, metal carbonitride, metal carbide particles, and carbon at prescribed porosity into a sintered body and impregnating a lubricant into the pores thereof.
CONSTITUTION: The particles and/or whiskers of a metal carbide (hereafter A) and a molding consisting of metallic powder (hereafter B) are heated in a nitridable gaseous atmosphere to form the B metal nitride by reaction of the B with the nitrogen. The A simultaneously reacts with the nitrogen and changes to the A metal nitride or A metal carbonitride and to form free carbon. A part of this free carbon and the B react to form the B metal carbide particles. These products are dispersed into the sintered body, by which the carbon dispersion reaction sintered composite ceramics having ≤10vol.% porosity and ≤5μm max. pore size is obtd. The lubricant is impregnated into the pores of such material, by which the material having an excellent sliding characteristic is obtd.
