Abstract:

To suppress occurrence of moire fringes and light transmission unevenness without needing a strict film thickness control.

A crystalline organic substance thin film is deposited by a vapor deposition or the like on a substrate. Island shaped crystalline nuclei with about 0.5 μm diameter and about 5 μm mutual distances are formed at random on the surface of the substrate. A film to be a reflection layer 22 is deposited on the crystalline organic substance thin film and subsequently the crystalline organic substance is sublimed by heating the substrate part so as to form pinholes to be seeds of micropores 222 on the surface of the film to be the reflection layer 22. The substrate part is cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaning method, the reflection layer parts on the crystalline nuclei surrounding the pinholes are released and a number of micropores 222 are randomly formed so as to obtain the reflection layer 22. A transmissive display is carried out by making light from the substrate rear surface pass through the micropores 222 and be incident on the liquid crystal layer. A reflective display is carried out by making light from the substrate front surface be reflected on the parts of the reflection layer 22 and be returned to the liquid crystal layer.
