PURPOSE: To enable production of a cooling effect and a suction inertia effect, by a method wherein an air suction port is located in the upper part, in a counter-advancing direction, of a cowling, and a suction inertia pipe, having an opening, is situated within the cowling on the advancing direction of a ship hull.
CONSTITUTION: Air R, fed to a diesel engine 2 for an outboard machine, flows through an air suction port of the upper part in a counter-advancing direction B of a cowling along a cylinder head 7 and a cylinder block 6 of the engine 2. The air is introduced in a suction inertia pipe 2 through an opening 21a on the advancing direction A side of a small ship, and is fed, as shown by an arrow mark R, in a suction port in the cylinder head 7 as it produces a suction interia effect. According to the invertion, an air suction port is located away from an operator at the stern, production of suction noise can be reduced, and air flowing in the cowling produces an effect in which the air cools a diesel engine from the outside.
