To provide a suction nozzle body and a vacuum cleaner which are capable of swiftly switching the direction of rotation of a rotary cleaning body according to the change of the moving direction of the suction nozzle body by enhancing the resolution in the detection of movement of a moving direction detection portion.
The moving direction detection portion 36 operatively associated with a front wheel 35 of the suction nozzle body 8 includes a photosensor 45 and a rotor 42. The outer surface 42a of the rotor 42 is formed in such a way that the length of the radius from the minimum radius rmin to the maximum radius rmax varies over one round around the axis of the rotating shaft 39. The photosensor 45 is disposed separately from the axis of the rotating shaft 39 by the length L larger than the maximum radius rmax of the rotor 42.
