PURPOSE: To perform efficient suction on various faces to be cleaned such as a carpet and a floor by making a rotary brush movable up and down and providing a recess keeping only part of a suction port in the opened state when the rotary brush is lowered and closes the suction port.

CONSTITUTION: When a carpet with long hairs is to be cleaned, for example, a knob body 64 is rotated and operated to hold a rotary brush 41 at the lifted position, then a suction port 31 is wholly opened. Brush hairs 45 of the rotary brush 41 scrape out dust from the carpet or the like in the wide range over whole suction port 31 in the longitudinal direction, and the dust is sucked through the suction port 31 and guided to a dust collecting chamber. On a floor or the like requiring no rotary brush 41, the knob body 64 is rotated to lower the rotary brush 41, and the suction port 31 is closed by the rotary brush 41 except a recess 43. The suction port 31 is opened only at part of the center section where the recess 43 at the center section of the rotary brush 41 is overlapped, and efficient suction is performed.
