Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R1 is H or benzoyl; R2 is alkyl).

EXAMPLE: Methyl-4,6-O-(3',4'-dibenzoyloxybenzylidene)-α-D-glucopyranoside.

USE: Antiphlogistics for treating chronic rheumatism. The compound expressed by formula I has toxicity lower than that of protocatechuic aldehyde and is more effective in reduced dose.

PREPARATION: Dibenzoyloxybenzaldehyde expressed by formula II is converted to acetal compound thereof by lower alcohol and the resultant acetal compound is reacted with saccharide derivative expressed by formula III and, as necessary, the reaction product is further subjected to ammonolysis to provide the compound expressed by formula I.
