Abstract:
PURPOSE: To simply obtain a fiber useful for various uses requiring an alkali resistance, a hydrophilicity, a high strength, anti-electrostatic properties, etc., by using the core component of a polymer having a higher melting point than that of the sheath component of a sulfonated linear low density polyethylene.
CONSTITUTION: This sulfonated composite fiber consists of a core component of a polymer having a higher melting point (a polypropylene, a polyester, a polyamide, etc.) than that of a sheath component of a linear low density polyethylene. The linear low density polyethylene of the sheath component is liable to be sulfonated, sulfonated uniformly and exhibits a small reduction in its strength by the sulfonation.
