Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject fiber, capable of being readily sulfonated with hot concentrated sulfuric acid and excellent in acid and alkali resistance by forming ≥40% fiber surface from a methylpentene-based polymer.
CONSTITUTION: Single fiber of a methylpentene-based polymer composed of poly(4-methylpentene-1) or a copolymer of 4-methylpentene-1 and other α-olefins or conjugate fiber containing the polymer as a surface layer component is formed into a heat bonding nonwoven fabric alone or mixed with other olefinic fibers and formed into the heat bonding nonwoven fabric, then immersed in hot concentrated sulfuric acid and subjected to sulfonating treatment.
