Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the nutrition of a plant and a plant tissue by inducing the production of a sulfur-rich 2S seed storage protein derived from Bertholletia excelsa.

CONSTITUTION: This DNA molecule comprises an expression cassette having a coding sequence capable of coding at least one subunit of a sulfur-rich 2S seed storage protein of Bertholletia excelsa H.B.K. (a 3kD subunit of amino acid residues 47 to 69 or 72, or 44 to 64 and/or a 9kD subunit of amino acid residues 70 to 146 or 73 to 146) under the control of a regulatory sequence for transcribing the coding sequence. A heterologous promoter or a promoter or a homologous 2S protein is used as the regulatory sequence and a heterologous signal peptide (especially a signal peptide related to the heterologous promoter) or a signal peptide of the 2S protein itself is used as the expression cassette, which is used to transform a plant cell and improve the nutrition thereof.
