PURPOSE: To prevent deformation and shrinkage crack of an elastic roll by forming the elastic roll possessing the layer of fibrous material impregnated with inorganic filler incorporated epoxy resin and the layer of epoxy resin.
CONSTITUTION: On the supercalender apparatus which smooths the web surface by the nip between a metal roll and an elastic roll, as the latter is used the elastic roll 1 which is made by providing the 1st layer 3 composed of fibrous material impregnated with inorganic filler incorporated epoxy resin and the 2nd layer 6 of epoxy resin around the metal core 2. Thus, longtime stable operation can be attained because the elastic roll which does not rack due to shrinkage after forming and has excellent heat resistance and pressure resistance at operation is used.
