PURPOSE: To prevent a supercharger from abnormal load by detecting the rotational condition and back pressure of an exhaust gas turbine to control a bypass valve and vary exhaust back pressure.
CONSTITUTION: When exhaust back pressure is abruptly reduced during the continuous running of an internal combustion engine 1, the rotational speed of an exhaust gas turbine 7 is increased. Sensors 11, 13 detect respectively the increase of the rotational speed and the decrease of exhaust back pressure and send the respective signal to a controller 12. The controller 12, upon receiving the signals, compares the detected value of the signal with set values from a rotational speed setter 14 and an exhaust back pressure setter 15 to open a bypass valve 10 according to the degree of the detected value. When exhaust back pressure is abruptly increased during the continuous running of the internal combustion engine 1, the rotational speed of the exhaust gas turbine 7 is abruptly reduced. In this case, the bypass value 10 is closed according to the degree of the detected value reversely to when the exhaust back pressure is reduced.
