To perform supercharging pressure control with high accuracy as well as restraining a variation in exhaust manifold pressure.
At time t0, when a target supercharging pressure PIMTRG is changed into higher one, A MAT is allowed to operate since a deviation between the target supercharging pressure PIMTRG and supercharging pressure PIM is larger than α. Thereby, the charging pressure PIM rises and when the deviation becomes α at time t2, the MAT is allowed to stop. Afterward, the supercharging pressure PIM is allowed to rise by feedback control of a VN mechanism. When the supercharging pressure PIM has overshot the target supercharging pressure PIMTRG, the MAT is allowed to perform a regenerative operation only during a prescribed period of time (a clock time t2 to t3), while when the supercharging pressure PIM has undershot the target supercharging pressure PIMTRG, the MAT is allowed to perform a regenerative operation only during a prescribed period of time (a clock time t4 to t5).
