Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting coil device capable of suppressing destruction and damage of a superconducting coil in an emergency, and a method for protecting a superconducting coil.SOLUTION: A superconducting coil device includes: a superconducting coil 12; a power supply 11 for supplying the superconducting coil 12 with a current; a protective resistor 17 that is connected with the superconducting coil 12 in parallel and whose ohmic value is variable; detection means 15 for detecting quench of the superconducting coil 12; shutdown means 16 for separating the power supply 11 from the superconducting coil 12 after the quench is detected; and control means 18 for controlling an ohmic value of the protective resistor 17 so that a voltage acted onto the superconducting coil 12 becomes a setting value or smaller after the quench is detected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
