PURPOSE: To store electric power efficiently by forming a superconductive closed circuit with a superconductive coil and a superconductive switch, by providing a connector to both terminals of the superconductive coil to connect to an external circuit and by cooling the superconductive switch independently of the superconductive coil.
CONSTITUTION: With valves 11 and 14 closed while valves 12 and 13 opened, by discharging nitrogen in a cooling room 5 of a switch section with a superconductive switch 8 kept in a high-resistance state i.e. in OFF state, where the voltage is applied across connector terminals 9 and 10, electric power is charged to a superconductive coil 7 as electromagnetic energy. During the power holding period, with valves 12 and 13 closed while valves 11 and 14 opened, by filling liquid nitrogen in the cooling room 5 of the switch section, a superconductive closed circuit is formed and the power is held with the resistance value of the superconductive switch at 0Ω. In discharging the current, a load is connected between connector terminals 9 and 10, and then the superconductive switch 8 is turned OFF with valves 11 and 14 closed while valves 12 and 13 opened, so that the power is supplied to the load.
