PURPOSE: To obtain a stable superconductive stranded AC cable which is less likely to cause quenching by twisting a predetermined number of superconductive wires to form one layer on the outer circumference of a non-magnetic core material for cooling all the superconductive wires effectively by cooling medium and eliminating heat due to AC loss effectively.
CONSTITUTION: A superconductive stranded AC cable consists of seven stainless wires 4 of 0.265mm each coated with a polyester coating 5 of a thickness of 10μm twisted with each other for forming a core material 3 of 0.855mm, and a layer of 22 superconductive wires of 0.12mm each coated with a polyester coating of a thickness of 10μm on the outer circumference to have a total outer diameter of 0.14mm twisted around the core material 3. All the superconductive wires are thus positioned on the outermost layer of the twisted wires, so they can be cooled uniformly and effectively by cooling medium. Because the superconductive wires are twisted in one layer, the number of them to be twisted with each other can be selected as desired by adjusting the outer diameter of the core material, thereby a desired current capacity can be applied easily.
