Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06145838
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain powdery starting material for a magnetostrictive material excellent in orientability by heat-treating alloy powder having a prescribed compsn. consisting of rare earth elements including Y, Fe, Co and Ni in an atmosphere such as vacuum.

CONSTITUTION: An alloy having a compsn. represented by RxTy (where R is one or more kinds of rare earth elements including Y, T is one or more among Fe, Co and Ni, (x) is 0-1 atomic fraction and (y) is 0-1 atomic fraction) is smelted. This alloy is pulverized and heat-treated in the form of powder in vacuum or in an inert gaseous atmosphere to obtain the objective powdery starting material for a magnetostrictive material excellent in orientability.
