To provide a detection method for a mobile object by which a mobile object can be detected at a dark place and a supervisor can accurately and visually confirm the mobile object after the detection by means of a video image and to provide an image supervisory device.
A lighting light with a wavelength of a near infrared ray region is lighted in a lighting device 30 to extend the sensitivity of an ITV camera 20 and a supervisory device main body 10 receives an image of a supervised area photographed periodically by the camera. An image input processing section 100 applies A/D conversion to an input image signal of a received frame, a difference image generating section 200 generates a difference image for each pixel between two frame images. A change area extract section 300 applies binary processing to the difference image to extract a change area. An object detection section 400 integrates areas adjacent to the extracted change area, registers the integrated area of one input image of the two frames as a template, applies contrast pattern matching to the other input image by means of normalization correlation. When the detection section 400 detects an area with low similarity as an object, a lighting device changeover section 600 selects a lighting light with a wavelength of a visible region for a prescribed time and a display device 40 displays a sharp video image photographed by the camera 20.
