PURPOSE: To obtain a support containing functional azlactone groups, used, e.g. for an immobilized enzyme, and having high reactivity with protein by polymerizing a water-soluble monomer, a water-soluble salt of N-(meth) acryloylamino acid, and a crosslinking monomer and treating the formed beads containing carboxylate groups with a cyclizing agent.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of 0-89 parts by mol of at least one water-soluble monomer undergoing free-radical addition polymerization, 1-99.9 parts by mol of a water-soluble salt of N-(meth)acryloylamino acid, and 0.1-99 parts by mol of at least one crosslinking monomer is polymerized, the formed polymer containing functional carboxylate groups is reacted with a cyclizing agent, and a polymer support is then isolated to give an objective support which contains units of the formula (wherein R1 is H or CH3; R2 and R3 are each a 1-14C alkyl, a 5-12C aryl, etc.; and n is 0 or 1) and which comprises a membrane, a film or a covering on a base material when it additionally contains a crosslinking monomer in an amount up to 99 parts by mol and comprises beads when it additionally contains a crosslinking monomer in an amount up to 5 parts by mol.
