PURPOSE: To improve tearing resistance in addition to heat resistance by forming a polyethylene terephthalate layer in a specified range of density on a sheet of raw paper.
CONSTITUTION: The support for the photographic printing paper is made by coating at least one side of the raw paper with the polyethylene terephthalate layer having a density of 1.33-1.36g/cm3. The crystallinity of the polyethylene terephthalate must not be enhanced by stretching treatment or heat treatment from the viewpoint of improving tear resistance, and the density of the polyethylene terephthalate can be regulated in the range of 1.33-1.36g/cm3 by melt extruding it and laminating it on the raw paper and rapidly cooling it to or below the temperature of its glass transition point.
