To obtain a supported catalyst compsn. which can be activated at any time and can be used without being limited to an easily sol. metallocene by using a specific metallocene complex and a metal compd.
A mixture comprising a metallocene complex salt represented by formula I [wherein M is Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb or Ta; X is halogen, H, 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl or -OR6 (wherein R6 is alkyl, aryl or the like); R1 to R5 are each H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or the like; and Z is X, a group of formula II or the like] and a metal compd. represented by M1(R15)m(X1)o [wherein M1 is an alkali or alkaline earth metal or a metal of the main group III; R15 is H, alkyl, aryl or the like; and X1 is halogen] is applied to a support, if necessary pretreated with a metal compd. represented by M2(M16)p(X2)q, and activated by the reaction with a soln. or suspension of a metallocenium-ion-forming compd., thus giving a supported catalyst compsn.
