To obtain a high quality supporter for various recording materials having simultaneously improved surface flatness and stiffness in good balance.
This supporter for a recording material is obtained by beating a hardwood bleached kraft pulp(LBKP) having 0.60-0.74mm weight average fiber length by a refiner to have 200-350% water retention value and 0.45-0.60mm weight average fiber length and carrying out papermaking of the beaten pulp. The beating is preferably carried out by two steps and so that the value (%) calculated by the formula [(the weight average fiber length of the LBKP before the beating)-(the weight average fiber length of the LBKP after the first beating)]/[(the weight average fiber length of the LBKP before the beating)-(the weight average fiber length of the LBKP after the final beating)]×100 may be ≥60%.
