To obtain a suppressant for cancer gene functions, capable of manifesting inhibiting actions on a ras cancer gene product and further suppressing activities against the cancer gene functions and useful as an anticancer agent, etc., by blending an extract from a leaf of a tropical plant Ervitamia microphylla Kerr as an active ingredient therein.
This suppressant for cancer gene functions is obtained by drying a leaf of a tropical plant Ervitamia microphylla Kerr of the family Apocynacea in an oven at 60°C, crushing the dried leaf, then adding chloroform thereto, stirring the resultant mixture at ambient temperature for 5hr, carrying out the extraction, concentrating the resultant extract solution under a reduced pressure, freeze-drying the prepared extract, subsequently dissolving the freeze- dried extract in a small amount of chloroform, successively treating the solution by the silica gel column chromatography, gel filtration column chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, etc., purifying the extract, providing a compound of the formula and formulating the resultant compound as an active ingredient into a pharmaceutical preparation. The resultant suppressant for the cancer gene functions has suppressing activities against the cancer gene functions and is useful as an anticancer agent, etc., of a new concept.
