PURPOSE: To obtain a compound, having beautifying and whitening effects, preventing or therapeutic effects on dermal stains or ephelides due to sunburn, etc., and high safety and effective in prevention, etc., of aging of the skin.
CONSTITUTION: This suppressant for melanogenesis contains a pregnenolone of the formula (R1 is a 1-18C carboxy, hydroxyl group or sulfate group) or its derivative, e.g. pregnenolone acetate as an active ingredient. The suppressant can be used in the form of a dermal preparation for external use and the amount thereof blended is preferably 0.5-5wt.% based on the total weight of the dermal preparation for external use. The suppressant can be prepared into a dosage form such as an ointment, a cream, an emulsion, a pack or a toilet lotion. Furthermore, the suppressant, together with an ultraviolet absorber, an ultraviolet scattering agent or an antiinflammatory agent, may be blended therein.
