Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce surface coated cemented carbide in which peeling resistance between a superhard substrate and an artificial diamond coating layer is improved and to provide a method for producing the same.
SOLUTION: As for a modified layer for maintaining the adhesive strength of a diamond coating layer, not the conventional cobalt removal treating method but radical nitriding treatment in which, as to a superhard substrate composed of tungsten carbide base cemented carbide, plasma used for nitriding treatment is controlled to reduce damage to the treating member is executed, by which a modified layer is formed on the surface of the substrate, and moreover, the surface is coated with an artificial diamond coating layer formed by a vapor phase synthesis method at a layer thickness of 0.2 to 3 μm to improve the peeling resistance.
