Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool made of a (Ti, M)CNB cermet and excellent in adhesion of the hard coating layer.

CONSTITUTION: A single or double layer consisting of TiC, TiN, TiB., TiO2, the solid solns of their ≥2 kinds and Al2O3 is formed in about 0.5-20μm average thickness on the surface of a (Ti, M) CNB cermet base having an internal composition consisting of a binder phase contg. 70-95wt.% of a hard disperse phase consisting essentially of (Ti, M) CNB contg. 0.2-4wt.% B and the balance one or two kinds between Co and Ni and having the maximum hardness at the surface part within ≤50μm depth from the surface to constitute the cutting tool.
