PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool having long life.SOLUTION: A surface coated cutting tool includes base material and a coating film for covering a surface of the base material. The coating film includes a compound layer consisting of a composition of TiMCN(where M is one or more elements (however, Ti is excluded) selected from a group consisting of a 4-group element, a 5-group element, a 6-group element in a periodic table, Al, Si, and B, and x and y satisfy 0.2≤x≤1, and 0≤y≤1), and the compound layer has an elastic recovery rate of 52% or more.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
