Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-covered cemented carbide cutting tool in which a hard covered layer demonstrates excellent wear resistance in high-speed cutting.
SOLUTION: The hard covered layer of the surface-covered cemented carbide cutting tool with the hard covered layer having the total mean layer thickness of 5-20 μm is vapor-deposited on a surface of tungsten carbide based cemented carbide base body or titanium carbo-nitride cermet base body is formed of an alternately multiple laminate layer comprising a complex nitride layer of Al and Ti which has the mean layer thickness of 0.5-1 μm and satisfies the composition formula: (AlXTi1-X)N (where, X is 0.45 to 0.75 in terms of the atomic ratio), and a tungsten carbide layer having the mean layer thickness of 0.1-0.5 μm.
