Abstract:

PURPOSE: To narrow the jetting width of plasma gas and to prevent the formation of a hardened layer with a prescribed width or above, at the time of jetting a granulated body and plasma gas onto the surface of the material to be worked and forming a hardened layer contg. the granulated body, by jetting assist gas from both sides of plasma.
CONSTITUTION: Orthogonally crossed to the relative moving direction to the material W to be worked in a surface hardening device 1, pipes 5 for jetting assist gas opposed to a plasma gas ejector 32 interposed are formed in such a manner that they pass through the outer tube 11 of the surface hardening device 1. At the time of surface hardening, gas of the same kind as that of shield gas is jetted from the pipes 5, by which the plasma gas to be jetted can be formed into a elliptic shape having a narrow width with the progressing direction of the surface hardening device 1 as the major axis, and the energy density can be made higher than the case in which it is jetted into a conical shape. Thus, to the required part with a narrow hardening width, a plasma gas jetting width is narrowed by the assist gas so as to correspond to the width, and efficient hardening can be executed.
