PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface hardening treating method and a device thereof giving prescribed compression residual stress and hardness to a surface layer of a steel ball for a ball bearing in a shorter time than in the past.
SOLUTION: In an inner wall of a cylindrical barrel 1, a protruded part 4 extended in a lengthwise direction is provided to protrude in equal six spaces. In the periphery of a support shaft 2 in a common axis to the cylindrical barrel 1, a flat plate-shaped blade part 5 extended in a lengthwise direction in the cylindrical barrel 1 is provided to protrude in equal three spaces. In the blade part 5, a quenching hardened steel ball hammering part 6 is secured. The support shaft 2 is rotated in a direction B at a speed higher than the cylindrical barrel 1. A steel ball 3 received in the cylindrical barrel 1 is dropped downward from the protruded part 4 moved upward according to rotation in a direction A of the cylindrical barrel 1. The dropped down steel ball 3 is hammered by the steel ball hammering part 6, to be sprung in a direction C, to be struck to a steel ball 3 or an inner wall of the cylindrical barrel 1 positioned in the direction C. By repeating this action, a surface of the steel ball 3 is hardened.
