In the light guide plate, which comprises the incident surface, an exit surface generally perpendicular to the incident surface, and an under surface opposed to the exit surface, and which is used for a side edge type backlight apparatus where a plurality of LEDs are placed at 6 mm-17 mm intervals in the vicinity of the incident surface, the incident surface is processed so as to spread light from the LEDs in the direction parallel to the exit surface in the incident surface; at least one of the exit surface and the under surface is provided with a plurality of projections having 2 faces; and the projections have a part satisfying θα>θβ, when the angle between one surface farther from the incident surface and the normal line of the exit surface is θ, the θat the front of the LED is θα, and the θ at the central line between the LED and the adjacent LED is θβ.
