Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface modification method of a vulcanized rubber or a thermoplastic elastomer, by which various functions such as significant sliding property and biocompatibility can be economically advantageously imparted to a target material in accordance with the purposes.SOLUTION: The surface modification method is applied to a vulcanized rubber or a thermoplastic elastomer as a modification target, and the method includes: a step 1 of forming a polymerization initiation point A on a surface of the modification target; a step 2 of initiating radical polymerization of nonfunctional monomers from the polymerization initiation point A to grow nonfunctional polymer chains; a step 3 of forming a polymerization initiation point B on a surface of the nonfunctional polymer chains; a step 4 of treating the surface of the nonfunctional polymer chains where the polymerization initiation point B is formed with fluorine-containing functional monomers, and then holding the target material at 40 to 100°C; and a step 5 of radically polymerizing the fluorine-containing functional monomers to grow fluorine-containing functional polymer chains.
