Title:
SURFACE MODIFICATION OF POLYMER MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS619443
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To impart antistatic properties, anti-fogging properties, etc. to the surface of a polymer material without any damages, by the graft polymerization of a radical-polymerizable monomer onto the surface of the polymer material which has been irradiated with light.

CONSTITUTION: The surface of a polymer material (e.g. PP) in sheet or film form in which a radical-polymerization initiator such as a peroxide can be introduced into the main chain or side chain by irradiation with light, is irradiated in the air with an energy of 10W1,000J/cm2 using a lamp having spectral characteristics of 250W580nm. The vapor or solution of a radical polymerizable monomer (e.g. styrene) is brought into contact with this polymer material to graft-polymerize it onto the surface of the polymer material.
