Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new techniques to modify the inner surface of pores of porous silica.
SOLUTION: A reaction solution comprising a surface active substance expressed by formula (3), a silica source, a solgel reaction catalyst and water is prepared to effect sol-gel reaction, the produced solid substance is filtered out and dried into powder, the powder is dispersed and refluxed in an organic solvent with a hydrolysis catalyst added thereto to produce the porous silica. In formula (3), at least one of Z1, Z2 and Z3 represents an alkoxy group or a halogen atom while the rest of Z1, Z2, Z3 neither an alkoxy group nor a halogen atom represents an alkyl group, Y represents a hydrophobic functional group or an atomic group, A' represents an amino acid residue or its modified group, and X represents a hydrophilic functional group or an atomic group. The obtained porous silica has the pores having the inner faces modified through covalent bonds by the surface active substance expressed by formula (3) from which the hydrophobic portion is removed.
