Abstract:

To provide a surface modifier which has both a water-repellent performance and an adherent ability to a base material by using a polymer composed of at least a water-repellent component and an adherent component.

The surface modifier (water-repellent film) 5 is composed of a block copolymer 5c comprising at least an adherent component 5b for adhering to the surface of a plate 3 and a water-repellent component 5a having a water- repellency, the block copolymer 5c being formed by block-polymerizing 4- vinylbenzyldimethylamine (4VA) and 4-trimethylsilylstyrene (4TMSS), using 4VA as the adherent component 5b and 4TMSS as the water-repellent component 5a, and by applying the block copolymer 5c to the surface of a plate 3 having a hole 4 for delivering an ink of an ink jet head, adhesiveness to the surface of the plate 3 and water-repellency of the surface of the plate 3 are provided.
