PURPOSE: To provide the surface roughening device to obtain the roll surface excellent in wear resistance by performing surface roughening by beam irradiation or electric discharge machining on the roll surface of the cold rolling roll and then, in a short time, immersing the roll surface into liquid nitrogen.
CONSTITUTION: A movable carriage 2 is provided on a screw feed axis 5 parallel to a rotation axis of a mechanism 1 to hold and rotate the roll A. A beam irradiation device 3 is mounted on the movable carriage 2. In addition, a tank to store the liquid nitrogen is provided below the roll A and a state with the roll surface of the roll A immersed into the liquid nitrogen is maintained. When the roll A is rotated by the mechanism 1, the movable carriage 2 is fed along the roll A by rotating the axis 5 in synchronization therewith. Surface roughening is performed on the roll A surface by the device 3 on the movable carriage 2 and then, the roll A surface is immersed into the liquid nitrogen in a short time.
