To provide a method and device to generate surface unevenness on a disc in its various zones simultaneously and variably.
The present invention is to generate surface unevenness variably on the first surface of a rigid disc base board 30 equipped with an internal recording head landing zone of ring form and an external data zone of ring form surrounding the head landing zone, in which a cylindrical step-equipped roller 20 for giving a force is provided to press a movable tape 16 to the surface of the base board 30, wherein the tape 16 is furnished at the surface with a slurry containing an abrasive, and thereby the zone is given a surface unevenness variably. The arrangement according to this method is such that the movable tape containing polish is located between the step roller and disc base board including a step to press the tape to the base board in such a way that a larger pressure is applied to the head landing zone than to the data zone.
