To provide a decorative article with an outstanding aesthetic appearance manufactured of more than one kind of differently colored materials as well as a surface treating method by which the decorative article can be obtained.
This surface treating method comprises the step (3a and 3b) to form a ground layer 6 on at least a part of the surface of a base material 2C, the step (3c) to form a coating layer 5 formed of titanium or a titanium alloy on at least a part of the surface of the ground layer 6, the step (3d) to form a differently colored layer 3 formed of the titanium alloy having a different color from the coating layer 5 on at least a part of the surface of the coating layer 5, the step (3e) to apply a masking coating film 4 on a part of the surface of the differently colored layer 3, the step (3f) to remove the differently colored layer 3 in a region not covered with the coating film 4 using a release agent and the step (3g) to remove the coating film 4. The differently colored layer 3 is formed of TiCN.
