Title:
SURFACE TREATMENT OF METAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5913066
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To treat the surface of metal with high resistance to corrosion and fatigue, by nitriding an iron blank material to form a diffusion layer and a compd. layer thereon then applying chrome plating on the compd. layer.

CONSTITUTION: An iron blank material is first subjected to a nitriding treatment to form a diffusion layer of about 0.2W0.5mm and a compd. layer of about 10W 30μ thereon, and chrome plating is applied on the compd. layer to form a plating layer of about 5W10μ, whereby the metallic surface having high resistance to corrosion and an improved limit of fatigue is obtd. It is preferable in the above- mentioned method to subject the iron blank material to the soft nitriding treatment after finishing the surface by buffing and to apply the chrome plating on the surface of the resulted compd. layer after finishing the same by buffing, whereby the adhesion between the iron blank material and the diffusion layer and between the compd. layer and the plating is improved, and the surface- treated metallic layer that withstands severe service conditions even with the thin chrome plating is obtd.
