PURPOSE: To obtain a floating index display member for a clock, which is excellent in its weather resistance and shock resistance, by floating an index part on a display member substrate on which a protective film has been formed, by a press, etc., and after that, removing the protective film, and reforming a surface coating film or a plating layer.

CONSTITUTION: On a dial substrate 1 on which decoration plating 3 and a protective film such as lacquer, etc. have been formed, an index 2, etc. are floated out by press working with a punch and a die. Subsequently, the protective film is removed, a decoration coating film 6 is added to the dial substrate, the upper surface of the index part is cut and worked, and after that, a plating layer 5 is formed on the upper surface of the index part. Accordingly, appearance of 3 colors can be displayed by the upper surface of the index part, the side and the display member substrate 1. Also, a shearing crack generated at the time of press working is protected by the decoration coating film 6, and the weather resistance is elevated.
