In a surface treatment method for a metal member with a recessed part, a metal member with a recessed part in which mixed shots containing a plurality of shots different in particle diameter are disposed, is subjected to excitation with a relatively low frequency and a relatively large amplitude to apply a compressive residual stress to an outermost layer of the recessed part of the metal member, and the metal member then is subjected to excitation with a relatively high frequency and a relatively small amplitude to smooth the surface of the recessed part of the metal member.
