PURPOSE: To form a uniform thin film on the surface of a workpiece to be treated at a high speed, by applying the dilt. liquid of a surface-treating agent into contact with the surface to be treated, and then subjecting the adherent dilt. liquid to the action of gas to remove most of it from the surface to be treated.
CONSTITUTION: After the surface of a polyethylene terephthalate film is brought into contact with the dilt. liquid of 30ppm sodium stearate, gas of 20m/min through an air knife is let affect to remove said dilt. liquid. Hence, the thin film of sodium stearate is formed on the former film. The wettability of the obtd. polyethylene terephthalate is enhanced to the extent that the contact angle of a waterdrop is improved from about 110° before the treatment to 30°. Using water, alcohol, etc. as a dispersion medium for the dilt. liquid, the surface-treating agent is dispersed into a molecular or fine granular state. By changing the configuration of the air knife, the treatment can be performed even onto an unflat surface.
