To obtain the subject composition stable in a wide pH range and capable of having high penetrability into fibers by adding a specific ether compound to a polyoxyalkylene monoalkyl ether.
This surfactant composition comprises (A) an ether compound of formula I [R1 and R2 are each a 1-19C linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl wherein the total carbon atom number of R1 and R2 is 5-20; A1 is a 2-5C linear or branched alkylene; (n) is 1-6] and (B) a polyoxyalkylene monoalkyl ether compound of formula II [R3 is a 6-30C linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl; A2 is a 2-5C linear or branched alkylene; (m) is 5-50]. The components A and B are compounded in an A/B weight ratio of 95/5 to 5/95 in the composition. It is preferable that the composition is essentially contained in an amount of 0.5-30 wt.% in a detergent for clothes.
