Abstract:
To provide a chip-type surge absorbing element which is fit for mass production, of low cost, responsive to surface mounting, and is able to delay or prevent short circuit between electrodes.
The surge absorbing element forms a discharge space 10 between a pair of inner electrodes 20 facing each other composed of a main electrode 8 conducting with an outer electrode 7 formed at both ends of edge ceramics 11 and an auxiliary electrode 9. The tip of the auxiliary electrode is pillar or cone shaped, a plane part of the main electrode 8 is exposed to the discharge space 10, and its area is made to be larger than the surface area of the auxiliary electrode 9.
